Massachusetts Cranberry harvest to start earlier

Harvesting of 2019 cranberries will start earlier this year – by end September – normally nothing happens until mid to end October. Cooler temperatures have brought the crop on and growers are now preparing to harvest which should extend through to end November

The increasing demand for Cranberry products has seen a progressive price increase over the last few of years after the industry was dragged down from the crazy heights of 2007-2008. The low prices of the last couple of years damaged many growers who suffered severe financial losses. Now there is more of a sense of positivity as prices nudge upwards thanks to all year round demand for Cranberry products

Normally the market is driven by fresh, dried and beverage sectors but with healthier consciences, the sweetened dried consumers are looking more to Frozen berries which fit better with the demand for lower sugar intakes. This sector is seemingly growing year on year with new additional “blends” of frozen fruits (Cranberry, Blackberry, Blueberry, Raspberry) bringing interest from the home made smoothie consumers
